Debbie Bliss ‘Kate’ – close up of wool for new cardi
A Debbie Bliss pattern but not her wool – far too expensive! I’m using Paton Shadow Tweed. Still super snuggly, but about half the price
It’s knitted in moss stitch, which is new for me. I’ll put some pics of the work in progress up later – yum yum!
Unemployed Post Number 1
It is now day 29 of officially having no job, archaeological or otherwise. The first week or so was spent up North seeing relatives but since then I’ve mostly been at home.
What to do, what to do? More spare time than I’ve ever had in the world but I’m not sure what to do with it. The house is cleaner than it’s ever been, the jungle that was the garden as been tidied up and is now semi-presentable, I’ve nearly finished knitting a lovely soft fluffy cardi, unfinished books have been finished and new recipies have been baked and cooked.
Don’t get me wrong, its fun and everything but I’m rapidy running out of things to do. I’ve applied for some ‘until-i-get-another-archaeology-job’ vacancies in town but some have told me that I’m basically overqualified and they don’t think I’ll stay. There aren’t any archaeology/museum/heritage jobs to apply for right now either.
What are you supposed to do?
Baby JH models my first Knitted Baby Jumper!
Roz sent me a picture this morning and here you can see Baby JH modelling my first Knitted Baby Jumper! I made it back in December but he’s only just fitting it now. I’m pleasantly surprised by how good it looks on a real life little person rather than as a flat thing just sewn together. You can’t even see the mistakes! Doesn’t he look fab! Hooray!
Fuzzy Lamb
Made from a free pattern by Barbara Prime at www.lulu.com/content/907313.
Took a few evenings to make up, bit fiddly to sew up with the fuzzy wool but I think it was worth it! Soooo cute! It’s for Baby JH when I head up to Manchester next weekend

A dinky 3 inches high
and made with tiny bits of snuggly dk wool. Took about 3 episodes of Peep Show to knit and stuff

A koala made from a knitted toybox pattern knittedtoybox.blogspot.com/2008/11/koala-baby.html.
He worked out quite well, but one of the ears is an odd shape because of my casting on I think.
Took a few hours, a small bit of DK wool and an even tinier bit of contrasting colour wool for the ears.
The photo is from my mobile so not that great, I’ll get round to retaking all the pictures with a proper camera soon!
The first dinosaur!
My first dino! Very pleased with him, and intending on making loads more from the Jean Greenhowe toy book. They have a few species, and even some cave people that are 1 inch high! Not archaeologically accurate but I love the idea of wee people to have with the dinos.
I think this one might go to nephew number 1
Made with peter pan double knit wool and 3mm needles – I think he took about 2 and half hours? Not sure because I was watching Hitman the mobie for some of that
Tiny Turtle – my first toy!
My first knitted toy/non clothing thing! The pattern is from Knitted toybox. I found it when I was looking for something to use up odd bits of wool – he’s so cute and wee! I managed to do it in a hour or two whilst watching tv so it was super quick and easy as well.
Prepare for a knitted toy invasion!
Levelling up in the knitting world!

The first grown up piece of knitting!
This lovely purple jumper type thing is the first piece of knitting that I’ve done that hasn’t been a) a small accessory such as a hat or b) for a baby!
Go me! It’s probably not that complicated as it was only a one star difficulty in the Rowan pattern book, but still, go me. It even has a nice gold thread running through it for added sparkle!

Rowan Classic Woman pattern book
The pattern book has some beaut stuff in it, but the wool has been discontinued
A bugger, because if I want to make anything else from it I’m going to have to work out and try to understand that wool substitution thing – which frankly still seems like a black art! It’s Rowan Lux wool, if anyone has any ideas
Trinity Baby!

Baby JH - the First Trinity Baby!
Last weekend saw a trip to Manchester to see the latest addition to the bambinos of the last few months, and the first of the Trinity Babies! Baby JH (as we aunties will call him). He’s well beaut, and his mummy is looking fabulous, despite having a sprog only 6 weeks ago. Hopefully, he’ll be the last baby amongst my friends for a while, this auntie business is expensive and there is only so much knitting one can do!

Knitting for Baby MJ
There have been hats, bootees, jumpers, cardigans and blankets for some of the most notable births in 2008. These probable stars and famous archaeologists of the future include:
Morgan Flynn O’Riordan (nephew 2!)
Isobel Amber Munday (first girl baby!)
Murran Jean Haston (first archaeologist baby!)
John Harry Edward Callaghan (first Trinity baby!)
That means lots of 1st birthdays in 2009, and so lots of hunting round the shops for suitable dinosaur presents
as well as cute yet chewable book! Hooray!
